Building Partnerships, Advancing Excellence

The Office of Foundation Relations (OFR) connects the mission of Emory University with private foundations through the development of mutually beneficial relationships.  Working with faculty and university leadership, we create awareness of Emory's distinctive strengths with a range of philanthropic organizations. Emory's preeminence in research, creative discovery, and engaged scholarship serves as the foundation for our relationships with funders. These reciprocal relationships are transformative in terms of knowledge creation and solving social issues at the local, national, and global level.

Who We Are

As a central office of Advancement and Alumni Engagement, the OFR team supports all of Emory's schools and units and can work with any faculty member who wants to approach a private foundation for support. Below is a listing of our staff and a link to their respective biographies and portfolios.

What We Do

  • Cultivate relationships between the University and private foundations, while serving as the primary institutional point of contact
  • Develop and implement strategic funding opportunities with private foundations that align with Emory’s mission
  • Work with faculty and Development staff to facilitate grant requests with private foundations
  • Coordinate and lead foundation strategy sessions across campus for large interdisciplinary and competitive proposals
  • Analyze, interpret, and communicate foundation trends that may impact short- and long-term funding goals
  • Provide project management for grant reports and strategies for ongoing stewardship
  • Assist with proposal development through editing and translating complex academic language for private foundation audiences

In addition to working directly with private foundations and faculty, the OFR team collaborates with units across campus to ensure quality proposals, timely submission, and financial compliance around grant awards.

In particular, we partner with Emory’s Research Administration Services, Office of Sponsored Programs, and Finance, Grants, and Contracts at various stages in the grant submission, review, and award process.
